As the new year approaches, many of us make resolutions to improve our health and fitness. While having specific health and fitness goals in mind is excellent, people often go to extremes to achieve those goals. They try the latest fad diet or exercise routine and often end up depleting their mental and physical energy.
This usually leads to either quitting entirely or achieving those goals and being unable to sustain them, ultimately leading to burnout, failure, or injury. For this reason, I suggest you let go of extremely unrealistic goals and focus on changing your life
When you begin to view health and fitness as a lifestyle rather than a part-time hobby or 30-day challenge, you will develop behavior's that will improve many areas of your life.
A healthy lifestyle can inspire creativity and teach you discipline, ability and balance. This will not only make you look and feel better, but you'll come across as a better version of yourself to the people in your life who really matter.
IT'S MORE THAN AESTHETICS
Health and fitness is more than how you look, the food you eat, or the weight you lift at the gym. They are about:
weight loss goals
cook meals
How do you feel?
if you have never meal prepped before
the quality of your life.
eat healthy
exercise routine
physical activity
the concentration you have at work.
your ability to move.
your mental state
mental health

if you have never prepared food before
When you're really healthy, you're in a better mood and you can do more physically. You can do things like walking the dog, hiking, or paddle boarding. Not being able to do these things can drastically affect your experiences and limit your quality of life.
SETTING THE EXAMPLE
When you choose to live a healthy lifestyle, you're not only doing yourself a favor, you're setting a great example for everyone around you. Your friends, family and children are affected by the healthy choices you make and will often feel inspired to make changes in their own lives.
The result is better relationships, lower risk of disease, and an overall healthier and happier world. Just by making a healthier choice, you can have a powerful impact on everyone around you. YOU WILL LEARN EXACT BEHAVIOUR CHANGE
I find that "diets" or "exercise challenges" only last so long. Going 100 MPH all the time is unrealistic. We are all human. Life happens, stress comes and goes, and plans can get thrown out.
When we choose to live a healthy lifestyle, we learn to accept and ADAPT to these things. You will learn to enjoy life when you are on vacation and away from your gym and kitchen because you have developed habits and the skills to live a healthy lifestyle no matter where you are. Always by practicing moderation and balance, you allow yourself to indulge without going overboard.
If you don't have access to the gym for a week, you get used to it travelling with resistance bands, creating a body weight circuit or using nearby benches and steps where you can exercise. Instead, you learn to adapt self-defeating when your routine goes awry.
CONSISTENCY
Sure, people get results with extreme diets or participating in exercise challenges. However, the percentage of people watching Those plans are tiny. These challenges are often completed in a short amount of time period and accompanied by strict guidelines for success and failure, both that are not good for your physical or emotional health.
When you set extreme goals, it's more likely to happen feel defeated if you "mess up". When expectations are not so intense, you are more likely to stay consistent and enjoy the journey. You don't give the pressure on yourself to be perfect. If you eat something "wrong" or skip a training, you wake up the next day and you're right back on track because now it is just part of your lifestyle.
This approach is much more achievable and leads to longer term consistency. Here are some tips to start creating health and fitness and lifestyle today:
1. FIND AN EXERCISE YOU ENJOY
This is important when it comes to staying consistent with your training. If you're constantly doing exercises that you don't enjoy and that leave you physically and emotionally drained, it's only going to last for so long.
Rather, find an exercise that you feel good about and can stick with long-term, even if it's not the most intense. Consistent low-intensity exercise will always beat inconsistent high-intensity exercise.
2. BE PATIENT about reaching YOUR FITNESS GOALS
Remember that results take time. Be easy on yourself.
Nothing good comes easy. Learn to fall in love with the process and the person
you will happen throughout the journey.
3. DON'T GIVE UP THE FOOD YOU LOVE
I am a firm believer in never giving up food
You love Find a way to make your favorite foods healthier. If pizza is your thing
favorite food, don't give it up. It will make you feel deprived. Get
get creative and use clean ingredients to create your healthy version.
4. DON'T COMPETE WITH ANYONE
This is your life and your journey. No two people
they are the same so you should never compare yourself with others. As long as you
wake up every day and try to be better than you were yesterday, you are on
correct route.
5. TRY NEW THINGS
Step out of your comfort zone. Try a new fitness class with a friend and explore different foods. Shopping for food in season is an easy way to start experimenting with different foods and exposing yourself to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
If you've never eaten before, try it! Stepping out of your comfort zone and changing things up will keep it interesting and help you stay motivated and inspired to make this lifestyle a permanent lifestyle.
